English/Nat Malaysia's Defence Minister has said that big arms purchases in Southeast Asia should not be looked upon as an arms race As a region with one of the highest economic growth rates in the world, it was only at times like this nations could replace old weapons with new, he said. But he said arms manufacturers who want to make sales to developing countries have to be prepared to transfer technology. Syed Hamid made his comments at the opening of the fifth annual Defence Services Asia arms show. The exhibition has attracted more than 600 defence manufacturers from 43 nations. The Cold War may be over but defence spending in Asia is still growing. And arms manufacturers the world over have come to Kuala Lumpur in a bid to gain vital orders as the West cuts back on defence spending. Defence Services Asia is held every two years. The show has doubled in size since the last exhibition in 1994 and military personnel from all over Asia come to shop for the latest weaponry. The booming tiger economies of countries like Malaysia, which has a growth rate of more than eight per cent, means they have the money to update ageing weaponry with the latest technology. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Undoubtedly the current economic growth enjoyed by us provided us the best opportunity to modernise our armed forces. The D S A 96 will thus be another avenue for us to assess and review on the latest defence status of the army." SUPER CAPTION: Syed Hamid Albar, Malaysian Defence Minister The annual defence budget for the seven member Association of Southeast Asian Nations now runs at nearly nine (b) billion dollars (U-S), according to the organisers of the show. Malaysia alone plans to spend two billion (b) dollars on modernising its conventional defence forces. It's a market foreign manufacturers are keen to cash in on. The UK has the biggest presence at the show with more than 80 companies represented. SOUNDBITE: (English) "The Pacific Rim and Malaysia itself are very important markets for the United Kingdom they're major area of growth for defence exports and we have long historical associations with this part of the world in any event and therefore we are keen to be here with a wide range of products." SUPER CAPTION: Brian Lowe, UK Defence Manufacturers Association This German company has been making combat knives and bayonets since the 14th Century - the world leader in the highly specialised field of military knives. With less hand-to-hand combat these days, knives have become multi-purpose tools. This knife doubles as a wire-cutter with built-in screwdriver and torch, as well as having a very sharp edge. South Africa is making is debut at the show. And it occupies more floor-space than any other exhibitor. The Denel group is more than willing to enter into joint ventures with Asian countries and hand over technology know-how. SOUNDBITE: (English) "It's not easy to do business if you've got an embargo against you and so they way the world has opened to us I think has really given us the opportunity to do be players in this part of the world and in the rest of the world. And we are really glad that we are, we can play in this part of the world and that we are received so well." SUPER CAPTION: Johan Alberts, Chief Executive Officer Denel Group In a region which has recently seen tension between China and Taiwan, as well as cross border skirmishes between North and South Korea, defence and security is an important issue for governments. Asian countries are using their new-found wealth to upgrade their armed forces, replacing old technology with new. Malaysia conducts trials of 30 mm naval gun from first-of-class NGPC The Malaysian Coast Guard has conducted the first test firings of a newly installed SMASH 30 mm remote controlled stabilised naval gun system from its first-of-class New Generation Patrol Craft (NGPC), KM Bagan Datuk (4541). The tests, which were conducted about 15 n miles west of Pulau Mentagor, off the coast of Perak, were conducted to validate the weapon's successful integration with systems on board the vessel. These involved a single seaborne target that was set adrift from and subsequently fired upon by Bagan Datuk in single and burst modes of three rounds each. Present during the tests were engineers from Turkish defence company Aselsan, which is supplying the naval gun system to the coastguard. According to specifications provided by the company, the SMASH system is fitted with a 30 mm Mk 44 Bushmaster-II cannon that fires 200 rds/min. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Thank You For Watching..... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Site : https://worldofweapon.wordpress.com Facebook : http://www.facebook.com/worldofweapon16 Twitter : https://twitter.com/worldofweapon VK.com : https://vk.com/vk.worldofweapon Myspace : https://myspace.com/worldofweapon Tags::-- mmea, maritim malaysia, coast guard, apmm, malaysia coast guard, brunei navy, hut, china coast guard attacks vietnam coast guard, philippine fisherman, philippine fishing boat, #chexit, mrrv-4401, indonesia coast guard., vietnamese coast guard, philippine coast guard, rodrigo roa duterte., duterte, thai navy, mcg, malaysian navy, indonesian navy, argentina navy, brzialian navy, polish navy, finnish navy, new zealand navy, turkish naval forces, saudi arabia navy, australian navy., indian navy, spanish navy, canadian navy., royal navy, taiwan navy, us navy, philippine navy., pcg military, tentera, tldm, war, royal malaysian navy, navy, malaysia, submarines, kd, ships, vessels, arms, armour, weapons, deals, defence, forces, armed, south, powerful, how, force, naval, malaysian, of, power, youtube, asian, kd selangor, latihan, perang borneo, countires, strength, malaysia coast guard, mmea, mobile offshore base, boustead, lms, littoral mission ship, a244s torpedo navy, armed forces, weapon, 30mm, military, canon, military training, military exercise, gun, firing, us military, bushmaster, military power, soldier, naval weapons, 50 cal gun, action, army, warfare, m134, new military technology, soldiers, us navy seals, deck, navy deck guns, guns on deck, technology, browning, m2, m240, mk 38, mk38, gatling gun firing, the gatling gun, m134 mini gun, m 134, minigun, in the navy, m242 bushmaster, us navy navy, gun, military, army, armed forces, naval artillery, soldiers, weapon, royal navy, uss, technology, artillery (military resource), naval, us navy, battleship, cannon, frigate, us navy ships in action, us navy battleships in action, border security, patrol boat, future weapons, destruction, warship, destroyer, missile boat, corvette, us navy ships shooting, explosion, mortar, bofors 57 mm gun, artillery, gun show, gatling gun, machine gun, swedish, sweden, swedish navy, fpsrussia, rocket turkish navy, turkish, military, turkish naval forces, turkey, türk deniz kuvvetleri, turkish frigate, navy, kuvvetleri, deniz, türk, corvette, littoral (military), anti-submarine warfare, maritime patrol, stealth technology, frigate, ada class, istanbul naval shipyard, rmk marine, f-512, tcg büyükada, f-511, tcg heybeliada, turkish warships, milli savas gemisi, warship (ship type), milgem project, armed, türk deniz gücü, turkish naval power, turkish warships novorossiysk, turkish frigates odessa, top 10 strongest military, muslim powers, greek army, brazilian army, turkish military, russian military, polish army aircraft carrier, military, navy, army, weapons, united states navy (armed force), aircraft carrier (ship type), nimitz class, ship, largest aircraft carrier, defense, vehicle, us navy aircraft carrier in action, f-18 aircraft carrier, sea monster, chinese aircraft carrier, chinese aircraft, china vs india economy, china vs india, china new aircraft carrier, china economy vs indian economy, china carrier, china aircraft carrier, aerial view aircraft carrier, inside aircraft carrier, us navy in action, helicopter aircraft carrier, f 18 aircraft carrier takeoff, aircraft carrier takeoff and landing, plane taking off aircraft carrier, aircraft carrier launch, us navy ships in action, donald trump, rail gun, electric drive motors, power, low radar profile, ironclad warship, vessel, naval fire support

Australian soldiers and Malaysian Armed Forces personnel step aboard an LHD landing craft from HMAS Adelaide before touring the mother ship in Port Klang, Malaysia, for Indo Pacific Endeavour 2017. The ship visit, which also embarked Malaysian Armed Forces vehicles, was designed to instil confidence in both sides that the two countries could work together in the event of a natural disaster humanitarian relief callout. HMAS Adelaide is part of the Australian Defence Force Joint Task Group Indo-Pacific Endeavour 2017, which departed Sydney in September to participate in a series of key military exercises throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Running from September to November, Indo-Pacific Endeavour will focus on enhancing military cooperation with some of Australia’s key regional partners including Indonesia, Japan, India, Malaysia, Singapore, the Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Brunei, Timor-Leste, Thailand, Cambodia and the Federated States of Micronesia. The deployment is part of ongoing efforts to enhance and develop strong positive relations with regional militaries through both dialogue and practical activities. The Joint Task Group will demonstrate the ADF's ability to operate across the full spectrum of military operations, from high-end military capabilities such as anti-submarine warfare to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. HMAS Adelaide will be accompanied at various stages of the deployment by HMAS Melbourne, HMAS Darwin, HMAS Toowoomba, HMAS Parramatta, and HMAS Sirius, making it the biggest coordinated task group deployment in decades. Indo-Pacific Endeavour will also involve service personnel from the Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force and include Defence civilians, Army and Navy helicopters, and fixed wing aircraft. (14 Mar 2017) Malaysia's defence minister said on Tuesday that Malaysia and Australia held a "common" interest in the fight against the Islamic State (IS) group given the possibility of "battle-hardened" Islamic State group sympathisers returning to the Asia-Pacific region from Syria. Hishammuddin Hussein made the remarks after meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, who arrived in Kuala Lumpur for a two-day visit in the Southeast Asian country. Hishammuddin also commented on the killing of Kim Jong Nam, the estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, saying that he felt he could count on Australia as an ally in the matter. Malaysian authorities said Kim Jong Nam was killed on 13 Febuary after two women smeared his face with the banned VX nerve agent at Kuala Lumpur's airport. North Korea - widely suspected of being behind the attack - rejects the findings.
